Simmonds on Jets’ radar?

Simmonds on Jets’ radar?

Might the Winnipeg Jets be in the market for a feisty winger with offensive upside?

A report from TSN insider Pierre LeBrun suggests both the Jets and Nashville Predators are keeping an eye on Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds.

With roughly five weeks to go before the NHL trade deadline, it’s no surprise that the top two teams in the Central Division would be investigating a variety of options.

At this time, the expectation is that the Jets are more likely to add a left-handed defenceman or a centre to play on the second line.

However, the reasons for checking in on Simmonds are simple.

The 30 year old is pending unrestricted free agent: a power forward that plays with an edge and chipped in 239 goals and 463 points in 807 career games over 11 NHL seasons.

Simmonds also has eight goals and 21 points in 42 Stanley Cup playoff games, so he would supply some post-season experience as well.

Simmonds has 13 goals and 19 points in 45 games with the Flyers this season and would likely welcome the opportunity to join a contender during the stretch run.

The Flyers are expected to be active in the market leading up to Feb. 25, looking for draft picks, prospects and futures in return.
