The province will create an economic growth strategy.
During his annual State of the Province address, Premier Brian Pallister announced former Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce president Dave Angus and entrepreneur Barb Gamey will develop the strategy.
Angus and Gamey are expected to report back to government on the initiative “in the first half of next year,” a government press release notes.
“They will have their work cut out for them as we inherited an unfocused and antiquated system that is not serving Manitoba and Manitobans,” said Premier Brian Pallister, in the release.
The premier said the strategy was recommended in a Deloitte review of Manitoba’s economic development efforts, which found current economic development initiatives lack clear goals, allow some mandates to overlap and limit co-ordination.
The report also called for an investment partnership and a new dedicated economic growth agency.
