I’m no particular fan of Don Cherry, but his criticism of recent immigrants to Canada disrespecting our military men and women by failing to purchase or wear the Remembrance poppy is thoroughly justified. Just visit a mall in any large Canadian city on Remembrance Day and see the number of people strolling around unconcernedly at 11 a.m. with absolutely no thought for the solemnity and meaning of the hour or the day. Even for those who have spent their lives here, and for whom Nov. 11 is significant, very little thought is given to our military for the remaining 364 days of the year. Some even save their poppies so that they won’t have to contribute in the following year. Read More
